SOUNDWAVE 1

So to fully comprehend the epicness of what the little festival that is called Soundwave is, i'm going to do my retelling of my experience in parts otherwise you will end up with the world's most massive post, so the little parts are to save your eyes and also i want to make sure that you will read it all. Also this is the beginning of Pat and I, yes my new camera's name is Pat (after Pat from The Maine). and the camera is the Sony Hx5v for those who are interested.

So it begins in the morning, i picked up M from the station and we made our way to the Showgrounds to meet S and J. When we arrived at the showgrounds, there were already quite a lot of people there, apparently there will be around 40,000 people attending this thing. S told us to get some free t-shirts from the guy. So M and I walked over to the guy and there was also another guy with him. At this point, i must point out that there are so many guys in Melbourne who insist on dressing up like they're in a band, not that i mind because they are usually good looking. So the typical band guy attire is the ray bans, t-shirt/plaid shirt and black skinny legs. This was what the guy next to the guy giving out t-shirts was wearing. Normally not really into talking to strangers but i wanted the free t-shirt. Then we started talking to the guys about Soundwave. One of guys gave us wristbands because we were over 18, and i asked him if he was a volunteer, but he was a worker and got paid. He also worked last year but he was selling soft drinks. We talked a little more and then we left, i think i was talking to him more because i wanted to keep looking at him, as embarrassing that is to admit. We were eagerly waiting for  the gates to open. Once it was around 11, they open the gates and everyone starting running towards bag check and ticket check. there were quite a few lines, so i had no idea which way to run towards. i always find it funny how thoroughly they check the guys and just let the girls pass. Anywho so once we were inside the venue, we decided to go to the signing tent, in order to buy some signing tickets. for some reason i like that system, it made sure whoever bought a ticket was able to get a ticket. and the money went to charity so that was good. so tickets are checked, and the bands didn't start playing for a little while. we walked around the venue and it was pretty awesome, there weren't that many stores, just food stalls and a little area of promotional shopping stalls selling mostly t-shirts. Then it was time for watching the bands.

THE ATARIS:
So this is the first band that M and I saw, the crowds were very tame and refreshing. it was so easy to make our way through the crowd. They were generally nice and let us through. Man everyone was so tall, i can't believe how short i am. it sucks being short at concerts, and i am going to continuously say that for the rest of the post. We weren't able to get to the front which is really hard to do btw, but i got a decent view and there was a big screen so it was okay. i managed to take a couple of photos and it came alright considering the distance, i love natural light for photography, its the best. I enjoyed their set even though i couldn't really remember the songs because i haven't listened to the band in a couple of years but their songs were still good. It was a good start to the day, and my excitement was growing.

THE STARTING LINE:
I haven't heard of this band until Soundwave but S and J said they were really good. So we got the stage about halfway through their set. And they were pretty good, but again i didn't know any of songs, so i just moved my mouth pretending to know the lyrics. The lead singer was very good, he was very animated and kept the audience entertained. umm i can't remember much about the set cept that it was good. Oh yeah, the crowds were more rowdier and i pushed around heaps. some people were doing this thing where they were bumping around and off each other, as the audience were very close together, this meant that the surrounding people got pushed around and all. Normally i wouldn't mind but i had to protect my camera and i was way smaller than most the people there and scared that i was going to pushed and hurt.

ANBERLIN:
So obviously a lot of people were looking forward to seeing this band as they are very popular, but i unfortunately do not know the band very well, so hence i couldn't sing along except to Paperthin Hymn but even then i barely got the words out. I wished i listened to them beforehand because i do think that they are an awesome band, but now i have just more things to listen to which is always good. They were also amazing, the crowd was captivated, i am so jealous of band members on stage, it must the best feeling, they are so in the zone, and just so comfortable and happy. Yeah the crowd for Anberlin freaked me out a little, i got separated from my friends and i was trying to move my head around to get a good view, but damn all those tall people made it hard. I was trying to take some photos, but then i heard this girl behind me saying "just stop taking photos". i think she directed at me but she wasn't actually talking to me. Anywhoo i stopped, and when i looked back at my photos, turns out i didn't even take that many. wish i stop listening to people.

WE THE KINGS:
As i saw We the Kings at Sidewaves, i wasn't worried about getting a spot right up at the front. We stood around 50metres back from the stage, that is a very rough estimate because i'm not good at judging distances, but point is that we were quite far from the stage, It was ok, i was still able to hear them and see them properly although i was on my tippy toes most of the time. Their set list was pretty much the same as sidewaves and Travis' talks were very similiar. But it was still awesome to watch, because then i can really imprint the experience in my head. It was awkward to be moshing when there's not many people moshing around you. I was still belting out the lyrics and going crazy. Man i do love their songs, how can they be so catchy and just exude general awesomeness. These guys just feel so normal but every thing that they do, i just think is so cool, even just saying a simple hello. I thoroughly enjoyed the set, and sad to see it end but after this set was a very exciting part of Soundwave.

So that was part 1, the next parts will include:
-Signings
-Tshirts
-3o Seconds
-Every Avenue
-Pat/Kenny
-Fozy Shazam
-The Maine
-Mayday
Hopefully this list will jot my memory for the next post. i hate that i can't remember things fully, but i will always remember how i felt to be there.

Love Squealer.
