Today I went on an op-shopping adventure with S. It was a trip that we were meant to have before the start of uni this year but somehow we never found the time. But since S is leaving for London soon, she asked if i was still up for the trip, and i gladly accepted. Op shopping is so much better when you have car, even if i wasn't driving. We decided to hit the south/south-east suburbs, which was exciting because i rarely get a chance to visit those op shops. Our day started in Bentleigh, where we hit the Salvos because it was the only one that had opened. We spent over 40 mins in the store, I didn't realized how long it would take, it didn't seem that long. S planned that we would start outwards and make our way inwards. We headed off to Mentone, where S scored some cool boat book ends, she has an obsession with book ends. It was so fun to visit the op shops and have proper looks in them. I usually always have a quick look because i normally visit op shops when i have to wait for public transport.
We stopped for lunch, and i was delighted because we got to eat on the beach. The weather was so good, very sunny, warm and the sky was clear. S had some sandwiches and fruit and i made some soba noodles salad. Overall, it was a nice picnic except i kept getting sand everywhere. we saw this little boy who by the sounds of it, had an American dad and S thought the mum was from New Zealand, and dad was African-American, i'm assuming, and the mum was asian, so their kid was so cute, his hair was half an afro and half in dreadlocks.
Then it was off to Cheltenham, unfortunately some of the op shops were closed but that was okay, we had a long list of op shops to visit. We went to salvos in Cheltenham, and we got obsessed with packets of scrapbooking cardboard that they were selling for really cheap. I didn't really have a purpose for the cardboard but it can't hurt to have them handy. We thought it was really awesome, scrapbooking paper is thicker than normal paper and normally better quality. S picked some really nice matching colours, while i chose darker colors that i liked but didn't match. We were pretty excited about that. S also bought some old sheet music which i thought was really cool, but if only i could play an instrument. People were really nice, because they would talk to us, mainly S and i was awkwardly standing next to her, about the stuff in op shops. It sort of made me feel like i was in a country town because of the friendliness.
So we realized that we wouldn't be able to get through to all the op shops, we totally underestimated the time it would take. So we went to straight to Oakleigh op shops because we heard that were good. I didn't buy any clothes, but when we went into Vinnies, i saw these mini glasses which i thought were really cool. They were so cute, we were trying to come up with purposes for them so i could justify buying them. In the end, i said i could put some small fake flowers in them, and S said i could hang tiny things off them. And because for the five glasses, it was only 80cents, so that was a bargain. They are about 8cm high. Do you guys have any idea what i can use them for?
In addition to these glasses, i got some various pieces of clothes which i hope i get around to wearing, but they're not vintage so it may easier to fit them into my sloppy dressing.
S's driving was pretty funny, she would make really sharp turns, and quick decisions, eg to turn in a street, but normally she would drive slow. We tried to listen to Anberlin songs in the car but that didn't work because we were either distracted or the time in the car was quite short.
After visiting Oakleigh, we headed back to Bentleigh and it was around 4.30 by this time, and planned S's party, we couldn't come up with many activities though, so hit me up with ideas, or if you know S, relay your ideas to her.
It was an amazing and exciting day! Thanks S :)
Love Squealer.
