A lot has happened in the past month and I haven't had the time to document it all. However I somewhat have it stored somewhere in my head and I will try to bring it out for you guys.
First up was Monisha's birthday party, which I mentioned in my last post was the reason for my weekend back to Melbourne. Initially I had wanted to arrive early but things don't always go to plan. In the morning, I went grocery shopping with Mum and bought food for the GC. There are a lot more cheaper Asian groceries than in Brisbane, I guess we have a larger Viet/Asian population, I went a little crazy with stocking up on supplies hoping that I wouldn't go over the 10kg baggage limit. Anywho grocery shopping started late and we came home later than I had expected. I picked up Thanh and we made the one hour drive to Monisha's, we first stopped at Sharline's to help out with the project. I kept missing the turn into her street, and drove down the wrong way, it was funny because it started to look like we were in the country. Then we all drove to Monisha's, but staggering our appearances to make it look less suspicious, I'm not sure if it was actually like that but that's how it turned out, maybe I just drive way too fast. Her house was decorated with blue and silver helium balloons, the 2-1 balloons, it was pretty cool. Nug, Jen and Yen were already there. Things got really loud when everyone was standing around catching up; multiple conversations occuring simultaneously. It was awesome to see my friends again, especially those I haven't seen in ages. The food was awesome, and of course I couldn't control myself and overate, because the food is just so easily accessible when it's in front of you. It was hilarious when Thanh tied a helium balloon to Susan's hair, which made her hair "float", and gradually throughout the night, more people had levitating hair. At some point, some of us were trying to act like jellyfish, but for some reason we did snake movements. It was entertaining. There was butter chicken for dinner which I was excited about because it's been way too long since I've had good butter chicken, and again I ate a lot as well. We watched some youtube videos including one of this guy who reenacted Beyonce's music videos, I've seen it before but it was equally funny the second time. The night continued with more random happenings, plentiful photos, a start of a new fantastic spanish drama. Leaving was hard in the morning, it had been an awesome weekend back, and it was sad to leave and head back to the GC.
When I got back to the GC, we celebrated my friends' bday which I made a rainbow cake. I was very eager to see how it turned out and I'm proud to say it was awesome! We went out to eat Korean afterwards and it was good, however i was eating super quickly and the food was still very hot, because I wanted to catch the bus to make it to a tutorial. In the end, I did make it in time, I'm such a good student *cough cough*.
My mid-sems came up afterwards, spanning over two weeks, and I studied a little more this time, but probably not as much as I should be doing. The worst exam was my dental subject exam, it was just horrible, I felt incredibly flustered and nervous that I couldn't recall the information properly. But everyone else found it very bad and were complaining about it. Actually now that I look back at the exam after a week of calming down, I admit the exam wasn't too bad, I was just very angry at myself for letting my nerves get in the way and worried about timing, I knew a lot but just couldn't get it out my brain. A lot of people are worried and saying they are preparing for the supplementary exam, but for me, I'm surprisingly quite calm. If it comes to it that I failed the first time, then I will take the supp exam. I'm aiming for a pass, but I don't think I will be too bothered if I failed, I knew it wasn't my best effort and at least there is a supp exam. (Yes, I say that now, but let's see what really happens when I find out my mark). I think I'm just too tired of talking about the exam.
Finally after all the mid sems were done, we were finally free! Also it was the week of my birthday, I didn't really have any expectations of how the day was going to be, it's usually uneventful and just like any other day. But for the first time, I actually planned something on my actual birthday, it was just a dinner with my uni friends and housemates.Yen had called me a couple of hours before 12, to catch up and wish me an early happy birthday, we talked for a while and it put me in a really good mood. I did some food prep and made the red velvet cake, however I did split the icing which made it look grainy and runny, but it still tasted alright. I got birthday messages throughout the day which was lovely, and I also decided to skip uni for that day. Oh yeah, Monisha and Yen bought me this dentist beanie kid, but it arrived a couple of days early. I was so confused because they bought it off ebay, so I didn't know the sender, and I got a little freaked out because this person knows a lot about me, and I had no clue who they were. Luckily twitter cleared that up and I'm glad I don't have a stalker. So anywho back to my bday, I slept in really late and didn't really want to get out of bed. I spend a couple of hours making invitations for my Melbourne party, which I was supposed to be finished with weeks ago. Then some of my friends came over and help me prepare the food. I had a quite a menu which I had managed to pull of pretty much all by myself. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the food, but my friends do, so I will show it to you guys once I get them. Anywho, my friends starting arriving, and it was really cool because it's the first time they have been to my place. However I was still in my pj's and unshowered state, not a pretty sight, but i didn't want to change until I was finished making all the food. I'm glad that mostly everyone came, because I know I don't have the best track record the people showing up to my events. So for the food, I had made sushi (of course), rice paper rolls, butter chicken and risotto, still pretty proud of myself for making everything. Anywho as soon I got everything finished, I took the quickest shower and changed. I think the food was pretty well received, most of them live away from home and don't do much cooking, so this might of been a nice change? (well I already know my sushi was amazing). My friends had bought over this massive package that i was eager to open, the wrapping was just very pretty. So we cut the cake and had the red velvet cake with ice cream, which was a nice addition. And then I finally got to open the presents! Omg, they were such thoughtful presents, I'm somewhat surprised they actually pay attention to half the things i say, the bulk of the presents was food/lollies which I personally didn't mind. But everything they had gotten me, was something that I had said I wanted or liked; like they got me a hand beater and it was so good because I had been complaining how my beater at home was half broken. Anywho I'm also glad that I didn't have to do much washing up, my housemates and friends helped with the cleaning up and everything, and i was very grateful. Overall it was awesome night, and I'm happy that my friends were able to make it and make my birthday special and memorable. Oh yeah, I can't believe I'm 21!!!
The following day, I came home to this package from Susan, inside was more confectionery and home made muesli. She had written me two letters, one from "John" and one from her personally. Obviously, I knew the letter wasn't actually from John, but I just loved the way it was written and the content, while reading I was picturing Susan's personality and voice in John's body, yep that sounded a little weird but it's the truth. Reading through the letters, I felt incredibly happy, it was such a lovely written letter, it makes me so elated, giddy and smiling like an idiot. I'm so grateful for such an awesome and thoughtful friend.
I've got one more thing to talk about but I will save it for the next post, you'll be hearing about a "wild" side of me.
Love Squealer.
